Why do we read science fiction?

To travel the stars in the company of characters on grand adventures? To witness the hero’s journey from Tatooine to Endor? Perhaps the harsh sands of Arrakis and the secrets of the sandworms are more to your taste.

Or is it the void itself, where lost fleets struggle for survival, encounter new civilizations, and look for a way home. What would it be like to explore a nebula, or an ice moon, or the ruins of an ancient culture that ended under mysterious circumstances?

New places, amazing technology, men and women rising to face all challenges—those are some reasons space opera is appealing.

What seemed impossible one hundred years ago is commonplace and taken for granted now.

Who knows what will happen to us next, or if we will even be on this planet in a hundred years.
