This post is personal.
I decided to make my living as a writer when I was twelve years old, but allowed life to dictate terms.
Many blessings have fallen to me, and I am grateful. I thank God every day.
My job is meaningful and provides for my family, so I am fortunate to have it.
But my passion is my writing. Every moment spent away from my craft, my art, my true calling is a struggle.
Some success has come to my artistic career, because I have worked hard and been fortunate in my friends and partners.
So here is what I will do: write three thousand words a day on whichever project has the greatest chance of earning enough money to support my family and allow me to retire from my regular job of twenty-three years. Maintain a level of fitness that keeps me from losing my mind. Then find what writing time I can to work on passion projects, knowing they will get done.
This is my formula for success and happiness. It’s simple and hard because it must be every day, not when I feel like it or life “allows” me to do it. This is what I will do.
